Is the grass greener on the side? Or, why should you consider switching software vendors? CIOs realize huge gains when they don't just auto-renew vendors, and switching software vendors substantially drives user satisfaction.
In fact, Info-Tech Research Group finds that 80% of organizations are more satisfied after changing software vendors. Yet, organizations uniformly plan to renew regardless of size or software type. Incumbent vendors have a market advantage, even if the organization is not satisfied with them. This data suggests that the perceived costs of switching are just too high, even if switching due to poor performance.
Costs of switching vendors are real, but renewal shouldn't be by default. If the perceived costs of switching are inflated, the organization risks being locked in a circular trap of inertia. Over time, complacency sets in, reinforcing this circular trap of inertia. The results show that organizations end up renewing vendors they would not recommend.
